Effect of roof angle and orientation on solar What's the ideal roof angle for solar? And how does facing east, west, or south affect annual solar generation?
What's the best roof angle and orientation for solar here in Ireland?
The angle and orientation of your roof significantly impact its ability to generate solar electricity.
Here we've made some simple solar calculators for you so you can adjust both the orientation and angle of your roof, and see how that affects the annual generation from solar.
All figures here are calculated based on a typical solar installation here in Ireland.
Effect of orientation on solar panel output
This has a significant impact on solar energy production. Generally, we recommend installing panels on roofs that face east, south, or west. When panels face north, their production drops off considerably. However, on a flatter roof, you can get away with panels pointing slightly north.
